if you’re running sql server 2005 there’s lot of new functionality gained moving sql server 2008 r2. sql server 2008 r2 includes new bi functionality whole set of sql server 2008 features including database , database backup compression; transparent database encryption; new date, time, , spatial data types; new filestream data type; resource governor , policy-based management.
