Which ORM tool to use for .NET C# for performance and feature set -
possible duplicate:
best performing orm .net
hey,
i realise there similar questions , posts etc on asking different.
my requirements:
- multi database capable little or no modification needed, mssql , mysql must.
- lightweight, can't use ton of memory return single field db.
- fast, on enterprise standards. no point haing orm has customers waiting.
- mature , last. don't want adopt orm expires after.
i had @ ormbattle.net and, once noticed creators of dataobjects behind it, ruled being biased.
i have been using subsonic time , , find easy work in opinion easiest solution not best solution. rob connery agreed not fleshy nhibernate in comparrision.
which brings me on next point, nhibernate seems, haven't tested yet myself, flegged orm tool mature, not subsonic isn't, , rounded. see plenty of people saying yay or neigh no 1 says why. yes, realise quite "heavy" , has learning curve, new tool, don't want replace sunsonic going slow projects , development time.
another tool looked at, , tested with, "business logic toolkit". yes, know isn't orm tool per setup of in relation data access similiar of nhibernate. took me age figure out how work mysql. realise documentation sparse , vague in cases. maturity, seems updated regularly there no clear indication of creators intent continue future. though great set of tools.
i @ linqconnect. yes may paid software , linq based coding extras have pay working certian setups silly.
dataobjects. again, seems decent tool. no mysql though. microsoft not providers considering on 80% (last approx value heard) of worlds database servers (web based anyway) mysql based.
there other paid software, if buy. it's not knowing.
and leaves beast hard tackle beginner. microsoft entity framework 5.0. felt tearing left of hair out. workshop labs, found, give understanding of , seem quite rounded , meshes directly .net. again, no mysql support out of box. don't particualrly idea of "building" source , compiling. then, if has featured implementation of mysql data provider reference i'm it. far have found half implementations not enough testing.
lastly, can explain me "fluent nhibernate" opposed "nhibernate" on own. there beneifit , etc. far has me turning nhibernate in form.
i know, there lot here in cases responses in other threads "use such , such, it's great" not helpful @ all.
my last point. reason have ventured path found subsonic can't, , never will, handle composite-ids. realise tables should have 1 unique ip legacy tables etc require composite ids. instance, sessionstate provider uses composite-id of "sessionid , applicationname" (i'm pretty sure). thinking now, may reason have random key issues when sessionstate running subsonic. maybe if there workaround stick subsonic.
it seems of tools mentioned, 1 around in 5 years nhibernate, , maybe entity framework (though quite different then, whereas i'd expect nhibernate remain largely same).
you find tool nhibernate has many, many more features tool subsonic. when run trouble not supporting composite id's, you'll find nhibernate has encountered , has solution problem. "maturity." subsonic miles , miles "mature" in sense.
lastly, fluent nhibernate library assist in configuration of nhibernate. lets configure mappings using concise c# code, rather xml configuration file. newer library performs similar task conform.
right nothing has power , flexibility of nhibernate. yes bit heavy , has learning curve, it's not difficult use, , learning curve presents application needs more of nhibernate's services, don't see huge determent. opposite actually, learning time invested.
