version control - Lightweight versioning system for standalone development -

i develop lot of prototypes while trying out stuff. wish have lightweight versioning system keep backup of these , make easy me find them next time. me in keeping track of various techiniques have tried solving particular problem.

i know suggestions on using right tool job.

update: simple google have given me names of version control apps , git preferred choice. know lightest app job , why. dont want single repo take gbs of space.
